TAKE CARE!! reaches a milestone

Just over four years ago, a multi-national group of expats in the Pattaya community recognized a need and organized to meet that need – TAKE CARE!! was off and running.

With a tremendous amount of effort and good will, TAKE CARE!! has recently reached a significant milestone in its efforts to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS amongst the staff of gay entertainment venues in the Pattayaland, Sunnee Plaza and Jomtien areas.

Without missing a distribution in the last four years (every two or three weeks, respectively in high and low season), TAKE CARE!! has been providing a supply of Safe Sex Packs (two condoms and one lubricant sachet packaged with an educational insert in Thai) to over 30 venues.

The milestone reached? Recently TAKE CARE!! distributed its 100,000th condom!!
 

With financial support provided by the Pattaya Gay Festival, Thais4Life, OZZ Bar (Jomtien) and a number of private donors, TAKE CARE!!’s preventive efforts are aimed at what is reported to be the second highest group of new cases of HIV/AIDS – gay men who have unprotected sex (Bangkok Post,12 February 2009). That report went on to say that in 2007, 32% of those infected with sexually transmitted infections were young people. Not using condoms is a major cause of the spread of venereal diseases.
