One Quiz Night, two birthdays and a Lucky Draw for the Boys: just another night at Oscars

Tuesday August 12 saw the eighth monthly quiz night this year for Thais4Life at Oscars on Boyz Town.

Nine teams, made up of over 30 customers, turned up for this month's trivia challenge and a chance to win a litre of Red Label sponsored by Peter and David of Oscars.

There were six rounds covering general knowledge, the human body, world leaders, sport, comedy and inventors.

It was a close run thing but regulars "The Know Alls" won the Red Label with 62 points from a possible 70, closely followed by "Triple Threat" and "Sons of the Desert". But as host David always says: "You get naff all for second place".

The Penny Jar at Oscars is always emptied and counted for quiz nights and customers have the chance to guess how much is in the jar. The closest guess this month was Vic who also won a litre of Red Label.

The quiz and Penny Jar guesses raised 10,000 baht for Thais4Life.

After the quiz "Triple Threat" team member Dwayne was surprised with a birthday cake. The cake was presented to amateur thespian Dwayne by his fellow team-mates.

It was also the last night of regular visitor Ken from Australia who kindly donated 6,000 Baht to be used for a Lucky Draw for all the staff at Oscars with each boy winning a prize.

Ken, sometimes known as "Fat Karen" is a regular visitor to Boyz Town and appeared in shows at Oscars and is a generous benefactor of Thais4Life.

Then, at midnight, it was time for another birthday cake because it was the birthday of Oscar's cashier Goa.

Goa has worked at Oscars since they opened and before that was manager at La Cage. The party went on to very late with some of the more hardy customers going on to a night club with the staff.
