Pride Around The World:
Brighton & Hove

The finale of the UK's biggest gay event, Pride 2008 Brighton & Hove is this weekend and the theme is "Pride Around The World".

Thousands of revellers will flock to the 17th Brighton & Hove Pride where the rainbow flag will be flying alongside of those of Brazil, Greece, Australia and, yes you've guessed it, Thailand.

The theme was chosen by trustees of the registered charity, which promotes equality, diversity and education to eliminate discrimination against the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

This year Pride wanted to reflect on what can be learned from other countries, as well as supporting those who are oppressed, persecuted or even killed because of their sexuality.

The event costs more than £200,000 to stage and relies heavily on the generosity of local people, businesses and those who attend the celebrations.

“The more successful the event becomes, the more it costs to put on. It’s not about anyone making money, it’s about making sure it remains free for everyone,” said Pride director Lesley Burn.
