THAILAND'S tourism target has been
reduced from the earlier forecast of 10 per cent to five per cent.
Tourism and sports minister, Mr Weerasak Kowsurat, said the country
would only aim for a modest five per cent growth in foreign and local
tourism earnings for next year, given the soaring oil prices and
Bangkok’s ongoing political uncertainty.
The new goal is to reap 630 billion baht in foreign tourism revenue from
16 million visitor arrivals next year.
This year’s foreign tourism target is 600 billion baht in revenue from
15.48 million arrivals.
Amazing Thailand will remain unchanged as the tourism branding for
Thailand’s 2009 marketing strategy map, but a Visit Thailand Year
2009-2010 tagline will be added to enhance brand awareness.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will be working more closely
with the private sector in a number of aggressive marketing activities,
particularly targeting the short- and medium-haul markets.
The international marketing budget, subjected to approval, is estimated
at around 2.29 billion baht (US$ 65 million).
Thailand will continue to promote its seven Amazing Wonders of Thailand
products. They are "thai-ness", treasures (adventure and historical
attractions), beaches, nature (ecotourism), wellness (medical tourism),
trends (lifestyle travel) and festivities.
