The party got under way at 9pm after
Happy Hour, with Mike and the team giving everyone a free Bucks Fizz and
beautiful sprays of Orchids, as button holes. Next there was a
wonderfully tasty Finger Buffet provided by next door neighbours White
Night. Then taking full advantage of a full house, Mike sent the lads
round selling raffle tickets in aid of The Mercy Centre. Fourteen prizes
were up for grabs ranging from bottles of Whiskey, Gin and Vodka to
Cuddly toys, tins of biscuits and a camp Handbag. Prizes were donated by
Roger the Headmaster, Referee Rod, John from Brighton, and Ernest
amongst others.
Two Birthday cakes were enjoyed as it
was also celebrations for Colin from Wan's Bar and Cafe who apparently
was 21 again! The cake for the Bars birthday was kindly donated by Rod
and was delicious.
Before the draw the new Amplifier was
put to test with a "Farang Karaoke" session. Rod kicked things off with
splendid rendition of the Bee Gee's classic "Words". This warmed up the
crowd and soon we were treated to a memorable version of The Animals,
"House of the Rising Sun, 'sung' by Wally, assisted by Rod. Simply
unforgettable! Ken, Cleethorpes answer to Frank Sinatra stunned the
crown with his versions of "My Way" and "Strangers In The Night" , but
sadly when Mike joined him for a duet version of Y.M.C.A. it was
definitely ' Null Point'.
Knowing when to quit, after the raffle,
the Karaoke was finished off with a thunderous ensemble performance of
"You'll Never Walk Alone". This drew stunned reactions from neighbours
way down the Soi. Discount was available on Paracetamol from the local
Pharmacy! (Allegedly.)
Mike sent round the Bubbly Bottle once
again, maybe by way of an apology for his poor singing, despite which,
everyone seemed to have a really good night.
About 10,000 baht was raised for The
Mercy Centre but as all money goes directly into locked collection
boxes, it will be some time before the final total is known. Updates
will be posted in the bar.
Mike and Joe would like to thank
everyone who attended and helped to make it such a good night, and also
big thanks to all the fantastic customers who have made their first year
so enjoyable. "Thank You All"
The next event at Mikes Bar La Cage is the second Chess Tournament on
Saturday 12th April. Registration from 8pm. Then on 23rd April it's The
St. Georges Day Party when once again we will raise the roof with Dame
Vera Lynn, Gracie Fields, Land Of Hope And Glory, Jerusalem and much
much more. Hope to see you there.
