Boyztown win The Mayor's Cup

It's a Sunday afternoon and 30 degrees Celsius, I know let's dress up in our best frocks and push a bed along Beach Road and Walking Street . . . and win a Trophy from the Mayor. Only in Pattaya!

That's exactly what Jim from Boyz Boyz Boyz and Glen from Copa Showbar ably assisted by staff and supporters.

Twenty-nine teams and their beds entered the first annual Pattaya International Bedrace on February 8, 2009 organised by the Rotary Club of Pattaya and Pattaya City Hall.
 

The "pride" of the race was the Boyztown Priscilla Queen of the Desert entry complete with Rainbow flags, drag queens and music from the movie.

Before the race started Pattaya City Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome inspected the beds so that prizes could be awarded after the race.

Other teams that entered included: Fr Ray Foundation, Mercure, Liberty Computers, Mercy Centre, Street Kids Drop-in Centre, Alcazar, Murphy's Law (who found time to stop off at the Irish Pub in Walking Street for a drink during the race), Nick's Pizza (look for the orange hair) plus many more.

After the race the Boyztown team were awarded the Mayor's Cup for the entry with the best overall effort. Alcazar won the Best Costume prize with the Women's Institute winning the Booby Prize!!!
